VI. I interviewed two individuals to see what their response would be to my (our) plan. Their responses are as follows.
I interviewed Maria Duran and Mariano Duran to see what there reponses would be to our plan.
My question was, "How would you feel if the fourteenth amendment was reformed to say that any child born here must have at least one legal resident parent of the United States in order to become a legal citizen?"
Maria Duran responded by saying that it would not be fair to change it because its been a moral right since this country was formed and taking that right away is wrong.
Mariano Duran responded by saying that it would stop illegal immigrants from taking advantage of the law. "It is a good compromise but, it was a given right from the start and shouldn't be changed."
VII. My (our) answer, based on our research, to their objections and concerns are
I was not expecting them to agree with this bill because they are Democrats. They do bring up good points but as Mariano said, "It is a good compromise." As stated, it should keep illegal immigrants from using the law to their advantage by finding loopholes. I stand by our bill and want to push it forward.
